Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen or KTM which means "motor vehicle" in English, is a renowned Austrian sports bike and car manufacturing company.

KTM: History

KTM was founded in 1934 by an Austrian engineer named Hans Trunkenpolz. The headquarters of KTM are at Mattighofen, Austria.

KTM began as a car repair and metalworking shop, but in 1953, Ernst Kronreif made a considerable investment in the company, and today it is called Kronreif Trunkenpolz Mattighofen.

The first racing title was earned by the company in the Austrian 125cc National Championship. and then in 1957, KTM built its own sports bike called Trophy 125cc.

KTM fragmented into entities in 1991:

  • Motorcycle Division- KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH
  • Tooling Division- KTM Werkzeugbau GmbH
  • Bicycles Division- KTM Fahrrad GmbH
