What is ITI?
Industrial Training Institute or ITI is an organization responsible for training the youth and providing high school students with industry-related education. Also, some trades can be applied after the eighth grade. These institutions are mainly meant for the students who have passed the 10th grade and want to gather some technical knowledge rather than going for any higher education. The Directorate General of Training (DGT), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Union Government administer these institutions.
These institutes provide industrial and technical training following completion of a science-based secondary education. Almost every state administers its own ITI entrance exams in order to give industrial training in a variety of technical and non-technical crafts or streams, such as machinist, welder, shoemaker, etc.
In Uttar Pradesh, the State Council for Vocational Training administers this examination for admission into several trades in its own, aided, and privately owned and managed training centres and institutes.
There are numerous government and commercial ITIs in India that offer vocational training to students. Aspirants will take the All India Trade Test (AITT) once their training is complete. Qualified applicants will receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC).
Duration of The ITI course
In India, ITIs provide ‘trades’ training programs. All the sectors require a particular skillset and according to the opted course, the time varies from 6 months to 2 years. The length of the course depends on the type and nature of the course.
ITI: Types of Courses
The ITI curriculum has been broken into two sections:
1). Engineering trade
Engineering courses are vocational programmes that emphasise technology. They focus on engineering, physics, mathematics, and technological fundamentals.
2). Non-engineering
They emphasise languages, soft skills, and industry-specific knowledge and abilities. Courses outside of engineering are typically not technical in nature.
What are the eligibility conditions for admission in an ITI?
The requirements necessary to enrol in each class are different. The components include, among others, those listed below.
- The applicant needs to have a recognised high school diploma in order to be considered (Or any other exam that is referred to as 10th standard).
- The prospective employee should have an overall grade point average of at least 35 percent.
- During the time the application is being processed, the applicant's age must fall somewhere between 14 and 40 years old.
