If you start sharing your Google Calendar, it can take a lot of headache out of all the meetings you arrange. You can just view each other's schedules and fix a meeting without having to go back and forth multiple times.
Yes, you can use your Google Calendar on any device, but you can share your Calendar only through a PC.
Share your Google Calendar with certain people
When you want to share your Google Calendar with a specific person, be it a spouse or colleague, you can just open a browser on your PC and open Google Calendar. Then:
- Hover your cursor over the calendar you want to share in the "My calendars" group in the left pane.
- Click on the icon with three dots appearing right next to it.
- In the pop-up menu that appears, click on Settings and Sharing.
- Now you will be in your calendar's settings. Find the "Share with specific people" group and click on Add People.
- The “Share with specific people” window appears. Here you can now enter the email address of the person with whom you want to share the calendar.
- For those to whom you give access to your calendar, you can also set some permissions. For this, you just have to click the downward arrow on the right end of the Permissions box.
- A drop-down menu will be displayed, showing these permissions on it:
- See only free/busy (hide details): The other person will be able to see the booked slots on your calendar but the details of those events will be hidden.
- See all event details: Both, the booked slots and the events are visible.
- Make changes to events: The person could edit the events if they want.
- Make changes and manage sharing: The person can now edit events and share them with others.
- Choose the permission level that you want to allow. Finally, click Send.
- The calendar will be shared.
Make your Google Calendar public
Your Google Calendar could also be made totally public and thus shared with the whole world. Thus, everyone who would want to access it would be able to do it. People would be able to search for your calendar even on Google Search.
For sharing your plans publically, just open any browser from your PC and open your Google Calendar. Then:
- Hover your cursor over the calendar you want to share in the "My calendars" group in the left pane.
- Click on the icon with three dots appearing right next to it.
- In the pop-up menu that appears, click on Settings and Sharing.
- You have now moved into the calendar settings. Find the "Access permissions" group and check on the box next to Make Available to Public.
- Then click on the downward arrow next to the permissions box to set certain permissions. Here you will get only two options.
- You get a menu showing two permissions :
- See only free/busy (hide details): All the slots that are booked on your calendar will be visible but the details of those events will be hidden.
- See all event details: Both, the booked slots and their events will be visible.
- Choose the permission level you’d like to give.
A shareable link can be generated to your calendar so that anyone who has that link can access your calendar.
- Just click on the Get Sharable Link button in the “Access permissions” group.
- A pop-up window will appear displaying a shareable link. Anyone with this link can access your calendar.
- Click on the Copy link button and copy your link.
Then you can just share this link with anyone and they will get access to your Calendar with the specified permissions.
Stop sharing your Google Calendar
If at any time you feel that you don't want to share your Google Calendar anymore you can very easily stop sharing your calendar.
You just have to uncheck the box right next to Make available to public if you had shared it with the public. And if you had shared it with some specific people, you can just click on the 'x' next to their names.
